Cyphernaut - Spanish Alphabet

Spanish is a Romance language that is related to French, Portuguese and Italian. Spanish has between 300 to 400 million native speakers ranking it second worldwide to Mandarin Chinese. It is estimated to have over 500 million total speakers worldwide which places it third behind English and Mandarin Chinese. It the official language of Spain, Mexico, and most Latin American countries in the Caribbean, Central America and South America. There are also many Spanish speakers in the United States especially in border states and urban centers. It is the most widely taught foreign language taught in the United States. Spanish spoken in Spain is called Castilan(castellano) by native speakers in Spain to differentiate from other languages in that country such as Basque, Catalan and Galician. There are many dialects of Spanish in Spain and Latin America as well.

This is a guide for learning the Spanish alphabet. The Spanish alphabet uses the Latin alphabet and consists of 24 consonants(21 standard, 3 extra) and 5 vowels. In the browser, vowels are indicated with a reddish tint. Ch and ll are considered to be diagraphs but are included in the alphabet browser as letters. In the Americas, rr is considered to be a separate letter and is shown as such in this alphabet guide. Vowels with acute accent marks (á, é, í, ó, ú) usually indicate that the syllable is stressed when it normally wouldn't be. In Spanish, the default stress is on the next to last syllable. But on a word like nación, the stress would be on the last syllable because of the accent mark over the o. See the accent mark guide for more information.
